| Main Street Theatre Works is celebrating its 15th season of award-winning theatre. Since joining the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance (SARTA) 12 years ago, MSTW has been recognized with 93 Elly Nominations and honored with 26 Elly Awards. The Elly awards (named after the Sacramento Bee publisher Eleanor McClatchey) were established 26 years ago to acknowledge excellence in theatre. SARTA has a membership of 67 theatres from Yuba City to Fairfield to Nevada City to Calaveras County. Main Street Theatre Works has been the recipient of the Best Overall Comedy Award for four of five years in a row. Seventy comedies were judged in 2007 and MSTW was recognized with the 2008 Best Comedy award for their production of “Moonlight and Magnolias.” The company also received a Best Direction award (Susan McCandless – “Moonlight and Magnolias”) and a Best Actress in a Comedy Award (Hazel Johnson – “On Golden Pond”). This professionally-oriented company attracts actors and audiences from a nine-county radius and produces works from contemporary comedies to the classics.
