Always the first Friday and Saturday of December. Festivities start Friday at 5:00. 2012 Friday December 7th and Saturday December 8th.

Enjoy Victorian splendor this Holiday Season in historic Sutter Creek, with its annual Old Fashioned Christmas Open House celebration. The streets of Historic Sutter Creek come alive with Christmas spirit as they are transformed to an era gone by with Charles Dickens characters and carolers in period costume, strolling along the beautifully lit streets of this magical Gold Rush Town. Gather your family and friends and experience a weekend of nostalgic holiday festivities. Feel the warmth of of the Season grow in your heart from the warm smiles of everyone you meet. The Main Street Merchants open their doors to welcome you with refreshments and edible treats. Most of the stores will be open until 9:00pm so that you can get a jump on your Holiday Shopping. Free carraige rides will be offered in front of the Visitor Center at 71a Main Street.

At 6pm on Friday evening, Santa and Mrs Claus will come to town in their  sleigh to light the Sutter Creek Community Tree on the lawn area  next to City Hall (in front of the historic Methodist Church).  After that, children (and adults) can have their photos taken with Santa (at no cost) inside the social hallof the Methodist Church. There will be craft tables for the children to make frames for their Santa photos, as well as tables for other seasonal crafts – all provided at no cost to participants.

The merriment continues on Saturday with Holiday music, wonderful shopping, and Charles Dickens characters strolling down the street.  Free Wagon Rides will be offered in front of the Visitor Center at 71a Main Street.

Saturday Dec 8th, in the evening, at 7:00pm is the Las Posadas Candlelight Walk. The public is invited to participate in this beautiful reenactment of Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem. The parade will begin at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Spanish Street where Mary will mount a donkey and she and Joseph will process down historic and beautiful Spanish Street, lined with flickering luminaries, and then onto Main Street as they go from Inn to Inn looking for shelter. Narrators will retell the familiar story and Musicians will lead in singing familiar Christmas carols that everyone is urged to join in and sing along. Truly a heart warming experience for all ages, the Las Posadas Candlelight Walk will be an evening you will cherish forever. Dress warm so you can enjoy the entire evening.

5:00 Shops open their doors with Holiday Cheer for all
6:00 Santa arrives on Main Street to Light the Tree.
6:30 – 9:00 Photos with Santa & Crafts for the children at the Methodist Church.
Father Christmas and other Dickens Characters will stroll Main Street. Shops open until 9:00.
