11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Strolling Sutter Creek
This year the 45th annual AAUW Home Tour will take place in the charming Gold Rush town of Sutter Creek. A California Historical Landmark, Sutter Creek was established in 1848 and incorporated in 1854, and is now considered the best-preserved town in the Mother Lode. Visitors can stroll along the five-block Main Street among commercial buildings constructed or remodeled in the 1890s when the region enjoyed a lode-mining boom.
Home Tour ticket holders will travel through time viewing the Jewel of the Mother Lode. The five fantastic historic homes selected for this year's Tour have been remodeled and restored to incorporate a respect for the past with the need for updated comfort and style.
In addition, docents will guide ticket holders through five historic sites including, the Sutter Creek Fire Museum, the General Store Museum preserved from the turn of the century and the Catholic Cemetery with headstones from the 1850s. Tea and homemade cookies will be served in the historic Methodist Church while live music plays and the Opportunity Quilt will be displayed until raffled off at 3:30 PM. A member art show will be hosted in the garden of one of the featured homes.
The price of a ticket for the AAUW 2017 Home Tour is $28 online or the day of the tour. Please visit http://amador-ca.aauw.net/home-tour/ to purchase your ticket.
This annual event supports the Amador Branch scholarship program benefiting local girls and women. We send seventh-grade girls to Tech Trek, a summer math-science camp and provide scholarships at the community college, upper division and graduate levels.
